Individual project Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Individual project - Research Paper Example 1). The U.S. has been attacked a number of times by terrorists. Appreciating the potential damage that biological weapons may do to the country if they landed on the hands of terrorists, the U.S. recently called for closer international cooperation to keep terrorists and biological weapons apart. The U.S. government believes that the threat of biological weapons against its citizens is growing as noted by Nebehay & Mohammed (par. 2). This is especially the case given that the ability of non-state actors and terrorists to develop biological weapons is increasing. Set against this background, a study was conducted featuring 52 respondents on the threat of biological weapons. The respondents included eight current senior policy makers (CSP), 19 former senior policy makers (FSP), and 25 experts (EXP). The data set was downloaded from the Carnegie Endowment for Peace Website. The study on the threat of biological weapons is significant considering that the development and use of biological weapons against the U.S. would possibly lead to numerous deaths and would greatly impact on the countryââ¬â¢s healthcare system. By extension, such a threat would probably shake the countryââ¬â¢s economy. From the statistics, it is clear that all the respondents felt that biological weapons pose at least some threat to the country. Roughly 73% of the respondents felt that biological weapons is a major threat to the country. The statistics also reveal that most of the respondents believe that the threat of biological weapons is increasing, as opposed to reducing. While no respondent felt that the threat is reducing in any way, only 17% of them felt that the threat of the weapons is neither increasing nor reducing. Given that the threat of biological weapons is real and seems to be growing according to the majority of respondents, it would be advisable for the U.S. to take active measures to prevent other countries and non-state actors from developing
Promotion Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Promotion - Research Paper Example According to present company management, it is essential to have a unique selling price market promotion to ensure that the company has a difference with the rest. Promotion is inclusive in marketing and is believed to play the part of a marketing investment that is excessively essential in businesses (Gordob, 2010). Over the years, phone manufacturers have had to deal with wireless carriers so that they can have adequate access to their networks. This is the reason most phone companies have their prices dictated by the same carriers mentioned above. High pricing caused people to find other services that can be used in place of the phones. As the struggle went on, different manufacturers, Verizon included, have used the technological ideas currently flooding the markets and have come up with the models that have been used to end the struggle. According to latest statistics, world mobile users have greatly increased such that they have surpassed internet users. It has been stipulated that more than forty five million people use smartphones. Additionally, more cell phone producing companies have joined the markets hence the stiff competition for clients. However, statistics show that Verizon has acquired success in the markets through the various promotions done continually. The fact that almost everyone owns a phone can be attributed to the high quality advertising strategies in the present world (Newton, 2009). This increase in the numbers of the mobile users has offered promoters hope that the market will soon become phenomenal. In the act of promoting mobile phones, it is essential to understand that most people typically are attached to them. For this reason, the more features a mobile phone offers the better and the more its promotion will result to the companyââ¬â¢s prospected success. Verizon has conducted enough research on characterized customer satisfaction, customer research, and products use, but seem to have forgotten to question directly from th e customer of their expectations. This is the reason there models seem to have similar applications despite the diverse shapes of the cell phone bodies. The Verizon promoters need to realize that their aim is to satisfy the needs of their customers as they make extremely large amounts of money. In my opinion, the customersââ¬â¢ demands have not yet been reached despite having new models of phones in the market (Saulimen, 2011). Verizon Company has also realized this and is tirelessly trying to incorporate the clientââ¬â¢s wishes in their newest models. This is since most individuals attempt keeping their phones with them and can aspire to have the phones assist them in doing almost all of their activities. Take for instance, the Verizonââ¬â¢s smart phones that have greatly broken into the market. They have a lot of applications favoring some people in the community but for those who would like to use programs, they cannot do it via their phones. A company that can break int o the market with such a marketable plan can greatly make profits as well as offer mobile phones with some programs. As stated above, technology improvements have caused great changes in the mobile phone market. For instance, the types of phone currently produced are technologically advanced although not to the expected standards. All companies dealing with the production of mobile phones seem to use

Career management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Career management - Essay Example This is attributed to tightened global economy where everybody is need of an employment opportunity. Many people find themselves staking up jobs with minimal career requirements. As they get deeper into these miscellaneous jobs, their career objectives fade until they lose the passion to have a career. This has been the case in many nations. However, human resource analysts argue that the economic conditions have forced people to abandon their career to look for other jobs with minimal requirements. The increasingly unemployment rates have also played a major role in making people abandon their careers (Zunker, 2005). For instance, in Greece many people have moved away from the country to look for employment opportunities in other countries. In foreign countries, these individuals do not stick to their current career but look for the most available employment opportunity. However, human resource analysts say that these are not reasons enough for people to abandon their career for men ial jobs. People should be responsible for the growth of their careers regardless of the economic conditions (Nathan & Hill, 2005). The major questions are why should people be responsible for their own careers and what are the advantages of growing ones career. An argument by Grant (2009) claims that people should ensure that their careers grow with each step of their professional life. Human resources specialists argue that, individuals are responsible for their own mishaps when it comes to seeking for employment. Many organizations administrators say that many people fail during interviews because they lack depth in their respective careers. Over the years, the quality of interviewees has dropped significantly which begs the question if career objective s are being abandoned. If individuals would strive to expend the depth in their careers, many people would find employment in the expending industrial industry. To prove this point, the global industrial market has over the past 5 years grown by about 13 percent (Grobler, 2005). With the growing industrial industry, it would be obvious to assume that employment opportunities would be available in these hubs. However, this is not the case as many people around the globe are in need of jobs. Many organization opt the use of machinery as their output tools. This is mainly attributed to the fact that people donââ¬â¢t have the depth in their careers that would drive the industry towards its success. If people could take responsibility and build their careers effectively, the human resource demand in the industries would return rise to the expected heights. Another reason why people should take responsibility of the careers is to maintain the economy growth. Behind the success of all global commercial giants there are personalities responsible for this success. However, the quality of these personalities has diminished in years. Individuals still at the helm of commercial giants are of old age since there is no such quality in the young generation. The quality of management skills required to run large companies has been a difficult thing to find. Many organizations have opted to retain the ageing administration. If this trend goes on, 10 years from now we will have companies with no appropriate management teams. In an argument by Werner (2008) this has been caused by the young generat
Case study analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 2
Case study analysis - Essay Example As Shaw (2010) notes, the verdict of the Supreme Court in June 2012, that declared the Obamacare as constitutional,à supports the ethical principle of justice approach health care, and provides the roadmap for states, insurance companies, employers, and beneficiaries to effective implementation of the plan. The piecemeal implementation of Act is expected to climax in 2014, when major changes will take effect. Provisions in the legislation are intended to have more people under insurance cover, trim soaring medical costs, and prevent illnesses among vulnerable populations (Almgren, 2012). The Act targets adults aged between 19 and 64, since health care has been beyond their reach since the 21st Century began. Those who do not have insurance cover are given priority of health care under the law. Some of the major reforms in Obamacare include; pushing insurers to cover persons with pre-existing health conditions, lowering the bar for Medicaid applicants and beneficiaries, standardizin g insurance premiums, and giving business organizations incentives to provide medical cover for their employees (Almgren, 2012). The Actââ¬â¢s utilitarian spirit means insurers will have to absorb as many people as possible when major provisions of the Act become effective in 2014. The legislation is expected to better health services across all societal segments at affordable cost. The program is expected to boost life expectancy among American citizens by saving thousands from treatable illnesses. This is evident in the outcomes a recent research in the Act has been reputed for saving the lives of more than 5% of Americans in three states that extended affordable medical to low-income earners (Almgren, 2012). The end result was one adult life saved for every 176 people insured under the reformed Medicaid (Almgren, 2012). Conversely, despite these positive outcomes envisaged in the Act and the vote of confidence by the Supreme Court, some still feel that the pitfalls in Obamacar e outweigh the benefits. For example, allowing people with pre-existing conditions to benefit from insurance cover contravenes fairness to insurers, since they will have no option but to spend more in care provision than is reasonable and some may collapse. Impacts of Obamacare on society As Shaw (2010) has suggested, American citizens are in consensus on the four important goals that the health care system should achieve. Firstly, there is a need to access high quality services that can keep the highest number of Americans healthy in the long-term. Secondly, an effective health care law should be one that allows Americans to exercise their freedom to choose the right health care for them; when to adopt a particular care, and where to get services from. Thirdly, Americans expect a favorable health care system that a majority can afford. Lastly, there is need to share medical costs and gains of health care fairly. Despite the consensus, it beats logic to be divided in thought on Obam acare. Perhaps the point of departure on health care is that priorities of care vary across people, groups and business organizations. Social injustice and fairness should therefore be the guiding principle in the system, since the values advocate for the treatment of all parties with fairness, more so when the health care plan brings together the rich and poor, for-profit organizations and non-profit organizati
Financial Managment worksheet 3 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Financial Managment worksheet 3 - Essay Example The investors who invest their money in the firm for hope to get a return on their investment are called stockholders or shareholders. In other words, evaluation of a proposed project should be based on the project's cost of capital (Vernimmen, 2005). This is because when a company raises capital, there is usually no direct links between the return to the supplier of the company's capital and the return on individual project. The corporation then uses the weighted average of these capitals for mixing in the firm's overall equity to analyze the capital budgeting decisions. It takes into consideration the weighted average of all the capital and is thus referred as weighted average cost of capital (WACC). The firm's mixture of debt and equity is called its capital expenditure. Although actual level of debt and equity may vary somewhat over time, most firms try to keep their financing mix close to a target capital structure. As we know that the WACC is a weighted average of relatively low-cost debt and high cost equity, so precisely we can say that capital structure change will affect the WACC to increase or decrease with respect to the change that occurs in the capital structure. The firm's mixture of debt and equity is called its capital structure. ... ecisely we can say that capital structure change will affect the WACC to increase or decrease with respect to the change that occurs in the capital structure. OPTIMAL CAPITAL STRUCTURE: The firm's mixture of debt and equity is called its capital structure. The fundamental source of a company's value is the stream of net cash flows generated by it assets. This stream is usually referred to as the company's net operating cash flow or earning before interest and taxes (EBIT). The capital structure adopted by a company divides the stream between different classes of investors. If a company is financed entirely by equity and there is no company tax, this entire stream is available to provide income to shareholders. If a company also borrows funds, the lenders have the first claim on the net operating cash flow and shareholders are entitled to the riskier, residual cash flow that remains after the lenders have been paid (Vernimmen, 2005). Manager should choose the capital structure that maximizes shareholder's wealth. The basic approach is to consider a trial capital structure based on the market values of the debt and equity, and then estimate the wealth of the sharehold ers under this capital structure. This approach is repeated until an optimal capital structure is identified. We have to take 5 steps into consideration to determine an "optimal capital structure", the steps are; 1. Estimate the interest rate the firm will pay 2. Estimate the cost of equity 3. Estimate the weighted average cost of capital (WACC) 4. Estimate the free cash flow and their present value, which is the value of the firm 5. Deduct the value of the debt to find the shareholders' wealth which we want to maximize An investor in a company with a low debt-equity ratio is likely to attach a low
THE MATRIX AND SKEPTICISM Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
THE MATRIX AND SKEPTICISM - Essay Example For, we cannot tell the difference as to whether we are dreaming or not. Nevertheless, he thought that his beliefs in mathematics could never err. So he invents this malevolent demon that deceives him in falling into error and into thinking that there is a physical world. Furthermore, Unger advanced his own skeptical thought experiment by claiming that an evil scientist may deceive us, and that we cannot know if there is none. Putnam also puts forth his brain in a vat theory by claiming that our brains are stored in vats filled with nourishing liquids, wherein a computer programs our brains, giving rise to what we think of as reality. However, the authors argue that all these skeptical thoughts are groundless. For, radical doubt of reality is only useful, given a philosophical framework of seeking absolute knowledge. However, we do not deal with such in reality, i.e. in creating meaning in our lives. So it follows that we have good reasons for believing in a physical reality. Finally , the article explores Cipherââ¬â¢s decision and deems it as immoral, for it only serves a hedonistic purpose and end in life, thus avoiding genuine experience. In the end, we are told that we need not sympathize with the skeptic, and that in reality; these doubts are groundless if not entirely meaningless. Hence, we ought to just face the world and live, just like we always have done so.
